What a job posting tells you about the loop
A posting is written to attract candidates, not to describe the interviews, but it still carries signal: the level, the stack, the scope of the work, and sometimes the process itself. Read for those and you can guess which rounds to prepare for first.
Treat any plan as a starting point. Ask the recruiter what the loop looks like; most will tell you the rounds and their order, and that beats any inference.
01
The process paragraph
Many postings describe the loop outright: "a take-home, then a final round of four interviews". When one does, the plan follows it.
02
Level words
"Own", "lead", "set direction", and "mentor" usually mean design and leadership rounds weigh more than a junior posting’s would.
03
The stack
Named languages and systems hint at what a deep dive or coding round is likely to lean on. They don’t tell you the questions.
04
Responsibilities
Scale, on-call, and cross-team work point at system design and behavioural rounds. Product wording points at a product sense round.
