// Round 06 · 30–45 min · 20 credits

Leadership & behavioral.

Conflict, ownership, failure, and influence. Real stories, structured well, that survive follow-up.

Behavioral rounds are where senior candidates are often decided, and where rehearsed answers fall apart. A good interviewer doesn’t accept the polished version of your story; they ask what you specifically did, what you’d do differently, and what happened next. Hardmode picks the competencies the job description signals (ownership, influence, mentoring, delivering under ambiguity) and digs into your stories the way a bar-raiser would.

Scope

What this round covers

  • Stories about conflict, failure, ownership, and influence without authority
  • Separating what you did from what the team did
  • Structure: situation, decision, action, result, reflection
  • Calibrating the scope of your stories to the level you’re interviewing for

Session

How the session runs

  1. 01 —

    Competencies from the JD

The interviewer chooses themes based on the level and what the posting emphasises.

  2. 02 —

    Story, then follow-up

You tell the story. It asks the questions that test whether it holds up.

  3. 03 —

    Reflection

Expect “what would you do differently?” and “what did you learn?”, asked properly.

Personalised

Fitted to you

Your CV

Asks for stories from the roles and projects on your CV, at the scope of the level you’re targeting. Optional, and you can switch it off for any session.

Your difficulty

  • Easy: A friendly interviewer who wants you to do well.
  • Medium: A fair, professional interviewer. What most interviews feel like.
  • Hard: A proper grilling, like a big-tech bar-raiser loop.

Review

What your feedback covers

  • Which stories fit the level you’re targeting, and how to resize the others
  • Moments to make your own role clearer (“I” as well as “we”)
  • The competencies your stories covered, and ones worth preparing a story for

Detailed and supportive at every difficulty · No score, no verdict

Prep

Tips before you start

  • Prepare six to eight stories you can adapt, not one per question.
  • Lead with the decision you made, not the background.
  • Know the outcome in numbers, if there were numbers.
